Difference between One Drive, Google Drive and Dropbox

Difference between One Drive, Google Drive and Dropbox will be briefly explained in this blog. This internet application has many things that benefit us as users. Although there are some disadvantages in terms of privacy and ownership of data.

Dropbox

Dropbox is a file hosting service operated by an American company, Dropbox, Inc. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, offers cloud storage, file synchronization, private cloud, and client software. Founded in 2007 by MIT students namely Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi as startup companies. With initial funding from Y Combinator accelerator.

Dropbox Basic users are given 2 gigabytes of free storage space. Dropbox Plus users are given 1 terabyte of storage space, as well as additional features including advanced sharing controls (links have passwords and expiration limits), remote deletion (deleting Dropbox folders from other devices online), and Additional Version History (data recovery deleted up to one year). Supports Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

Dropbox has received the Crunchie Award in 2010 for Best Internet Applications, and Editor’s Choice Award for Software by Macworld’s 2009. However, Dropbox has also experienced criticism of security breaches and privacy issues. In August 2015, Dropbox announced the availability of the “Universal 2nd Factor” USB security key, providing two-factor authentication to enter the service.

Initially, Dropbox servers and computer applications were written in Python. In July 2014, Dropbox migrated the backend infrastructure to Go.
